Indian-American auditor, Deepa Pawate, has been appointed as the chief audit officer for Emory University and Emory Healthcare. In her new role, Pawate will oversee the university’s internal audits, focusing on improving internal controls, risk management, and governance.
Having served at the university for over 20 years, Pawate previously served as the associate chief audit officer and assistant vice president for university and research audit. According to the university, her extensive experience and strong relationships within Emory will help her collaborate effectively with executive leadership and the board of trustees.
Diana Carter, vice president and chief administrative officer, expressed confidence in Pawate's abilities, stating, "We are fortunate to have such high-caliber talent in the Emory community."
Before joining Emory in 2005, Pawate was a consultant with Northrop Grumman Corporation, where she worked on information security and systems analyses for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She also worked with Arthur Andersen, conducting internal audits and risk management reviews.
Pawate is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and a member of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association. She earned her bachelor’s degree in computer science and her executive MBA from Emory University.
Pawate's appointment is part of Emory’s effort to strengthen its internal audit capabilities and improve risk management across the institution. She will report directly to Diana Carter and the audit and compliance committee of the board of trustees.
