The World Yogasana Federation has appointed Dr. Moxraj, a prominent Yoga Guru and the first cultural diplomat and yoga teacher at the Indian Embassy in Washington D.C., as the coordinator of the United States of America Yogasana Sports Federation.
In an effort to promote yogasana as a competitive sport, World Yogasana Federation President Yogrishi Swami Ramdev is pushing for its recognition in major sporting events which include the Olympic and Commonwealth Games. On the recommendation of World Yogasana General Secretary Dr. Jaideep Arya, Dr. Moxraj has been selected to lead the USA Federation. His tenure began on Aug. 24, 2024, and is initially set for six months, with the possibility of an extension.
As the coordinator, Dr. Moxraj’s key responsibilities include establishing and expanding yoga sports federations across the USA, organizing training programs for trainers and judges in preparation for the Olympic and Commonwealth Games, and hosting national-level yoga competitions.
Moxraj has been a significant figure in promoting yoga in the United States for the past three years. In 2018, he led thousands of people from 12 countries in a yoga session in front of the U.S. Capitol Hill. He followed this by organizing similar large-scale events in front of the White House and Washington Monument in 2019. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he reached millions through online programs such as "Yoga Aapke Dwar" and hosted yoga sessions at India House.
His efforts to popularize yoga in America include free yoga classes across various universities, religious sites, embassy premises, and trade centers in states like Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Washington D.C. He has also delivered key lectures on yoga at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
Dr. Moxraj has been active in the global yoga movement since the first International Yoga Day, where he played a crucial role in organizing district-level events in Ajmer, India. His leadership in these early initiatives paved the way for his involvement in International Yoga Day celebrations worldwide.
