Recognition Highlights Bajwa's Pioneering Contributions to Wood Science Research

Dilpreet Bajwa, the head of Montana State University's department of mechanical and industrial engineering, has been named a fellow of the International Academy of Wood Science (IAWS).
The IAWS, a nonprofit organization encompassing researchers from all facets of wood science, elects fellows who have demonstrated sustained contributions to the field and adhere to the highest scientific standards.
Much of Bajwa's research at MSU focuses on bio-based materials, including wood and fiber composites, as well as on enhancing the value of agricultural by-products and utilizing biomass for energy storage.
Bajwa, who also serves as editor-in-chief of Elsevier's Industrial Crops and Products journal, has authored over 185 peer-reviewed journal articles and technical papers and holds eight records of inventions and patents. He has played a pivotal role in mentoring and supervising numerous graduate students, undergraduates, and postdoctoral researchers and scholars.
With his involvement in over 44 research projects, Bajwa has amassed cumulative research funding nearing $45 million, from esteemed institutions such as the National Science Foundation, U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Energy, and U.S. Army.
Expressing gratitude for the recognition, the Punjab Agricultural University graduate, stated, “I am honored to be elected as a fellow of this prestigious organization. It excites me to see our research getting recognized.”
Brett Gunnink, dean of MSU’s Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering, praised Bajwa’s achievement, calling it a significant accomplishment that recognizes a career of excellence.
