Indian singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh has become the first South Asian artist to appear on the cover of Billboard Magazine, a milestone in the global music industry.

The Punjabi star will feature on Billboard Canada’s debut print edition, set for release in December 2024. Limited signed copies will also be available for collectors, underscoring Dosanjh's growing influence across continents.

The magazine will showcase four collectible covers, highlighting different aspects of Dosanjh’s career and identity. Behind-the-scenes stories from his Dil-Luminati tour, which has garnered both success and controversy over unpaid dancers, will be included in the issue, according to Billboard.

Dosanjh’s feature follows a series of high-profile achievements for the 40-year-old, including his 2023 performance as the first Punjabi artist at Coachella and his debut on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, where he was introduced as “the biggest Punjabi artist on the planet.”

From his origins in a small village in Punjab, Dosanjh has blended traditional Punjabi folk music with modern genres such as rap and hip-hop, while collaborating with international stars like Ed Sheeran, Sia, and Saweetie. One standout moment was when he convinced Ed Sheeran to sing in Punjabi during a concert, a performance that remains popular among fans.

Despite facing controversy over labor disputes during his Dil-Luminati tour, Dosanjh’s popularity continues to grow, as demonstrated by the high demand for the upcoming Billboard issue.
