Two Indian students, Nivesh Mukka and Goutham Parsi, both 19 years old and enrolled at Arizona State University, died in a fatal head-on traffic collision near Lake Pleasant in Arizona.
The Peoria Police identified them and are investigating the cause of the accident, involving a white Kia Forte and a red Ford F150 on Castle Hot Springs Road. Local authorities and the university are providing support to their friends and peers affected by the tragedy.
ASU spokesperson said the International Students and Scholars Center is working with the Dean of Students, counseling services and housing representatives to identify their student groups, friends, roommates, so that they can offer any needed support, according to local Fox 10 news channel.
The fatal head on traffic collision happened in the evening of April 20. At around 6:18 PM the police responded to an injury collision on Castle Hot Springs Road just north of State Route 74, the police said adding that this multiple vehicle collision involved two vehicles, a white 2024 Kia Forte and a red 2022 Ford F150, in which they both collided head on.
"Preliminary investigation shows the driver of the red F150 was traveling southbound on Castle Hot Springs Road while the white Kia Forte was traveling northbound. The cause of this collision is still being investigated,” the police said in a statement.
“The red F150 had one occupant at the time of the collision. The occupant was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries but has since been released. The white Kia Forte had three occupants inside the vehicle. The driver was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries but has since been released. The two other occupants died from their injuries on scene,” it said.
“They have been identified as 19-year-old Nivesh Mukka and 19-year-old Goutham Parsi, both from India,” the police said.
