Indian American Congressman Shri Thanedar will attend the DC South Asian Film Festival (DCSAFF) 2024 as chief guest. The event organized by the DC South Asian Arts Council Inc. (DCSAACI) will take place from Sept. 6 to 30 at The Writer’s Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and the Cinema Arts Theater in Fairfax, Virginia.
Congressman Thanedar, along with his wife Shashi Thanedar, will grace the red carpet and opening ceremony on Sept. 13 at Fairfax Cinema Arts Theater. They will also oversee the screening of Dear Pra, a film produced by the Shri Thanedar Community Center, which tackles the stigma surrounding mental health.
The festival will premiere three feature films: Puratawn (Ancient), Not Tonight, and Andhela Ravamidhi. Attendees will have a chance to engage with renowned authors like Alka Joshi and Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, and enjoy performances by musicians Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan and Vidushi Ramneek Singh. Actors Rituparna Sengupta and Indrani Davaluri, as well as director Suman Ghosh, will also be in attendance.
“We are looking forward to hosting a very successful DC South Asian Festival 2024, an opportunity to share the best of South Asian literature, music, and films with the DMV area enthusiasts,” said festival director Manoj Singh. “The theme for 2024 is ‘Moving forward, with peace, and kindness.’”
Director Suman Ghosh remarked, “DCSAFF has been a film festival which has established itself immensely in the last decade. I have a personal connection with the festival since it has found home to many of my previous films. We feel honored to world premiere at such a prestigious film festival.”
Nitin Adsul, a DCSAFF patron, added, “Every year I eagerly look forward to watching classy South Asian films at DCSAFF. This year is special to me as DCSAFF selected our film Dear Pra, made in the DC area with local cast and crew, and it will get an international platform for screening. I am grateful for all the support from Producer Shri Thanedar and local talent.”
