Voters in Michigan's 13th District have re-elected Congressman Shri Thanedar to a second term, marking his seventh consecutive victory in the city of Detroit. Thanedar attributed this achievement to his commitment to strong constituent services, his support for working families and unions, and his advocacy for reproductive rights.

"Everywhere I go, constituents always come up to me and tell me how my office helped them with their immigration issues, secure a visa, get veterans' benefits, get their tax returns, etc.," Thanedar said. "That is a testament to my team, and I couldn't be prouder of all their hard work and how effective we are in serving our constituents."

Reflecting on his first term, Thanedar highlighted the impact of federal funding in the district, specifically for areas like Southgate. "We were able to bring federal dollars to areas downriver that had never received federal funding. But it's my goal to ensure that every municipality in my district receives the funds they need from D.C.," he explained. The Congressman noted his legislative accomplishments, mentioning that he sponsored 27 bills, co-sponsored 574 more, and expressed pride in his work on mental health and small business issues.

Thanedar also extended his gratitude to his opponents for engaging in the democratic process, to U.S. House Democratic leadership for their endorsement, and to the unions and groups that supported his campaign. "Hopefully, Vice President Harris and Governor Walz are successful so we can continue the record investment in America that President Biden started. Regardless, I will always fight for the 13th District and its constituents," he added.

Born in Karnataka, India, Thanedar moved to the US for higher education, earning a PhD followed by an MBA. With a background as a chemist and entrepreneur, he quickly adapted to public service, first in the Michigan State House and then in Washington, DC. Since taking office in January 2023, Thanedar has become known for his commitment to strong constituent services, fighting for working families, and his advocacy for unions and reproductive freedom.
