Clubhouse relaunched in a new avatar

The founders claim that the new Clubhouse is more similar to a texting app than the old one. The most significant change is "Chats", a brand-new voice-only chat platform for users and their friends.

The social networking site Clubhouse, co-founded by Indian-American Rohan Seth and Paul Davison, is making a comeback in a new avatar. The app, which is available on iOS and Android, will be "more like a messaging app" , the app's creators wrote in a blog post.

The founders claim that new version is "designed to be more social than other messaging apps, and a bit more Clubhouse-y,". The most significant change is "Chats", a brand-new voice-only chat platform for users and their friends.

"Our goal was to make it 100x easier for you to be with friends throughout the day, bump into friends unexpectedly, and get to know new friends through your existing friend groups – even if you don’t have many friends on Clubhouse or a ton of time to spare. We’ve been heads down testing it for quite some time and we’re so excited to share it with you," the founders said in their blog post.

Notably, the app will still feature live rooms. However, it appears that Clubhouse is transitioning towards a more intimate social environment, giving priority to friends and private conversations over communities.

"The new update is a significant evolution of Clubhouse." Every time you open the app, it is "designed to make it easier for you to talk to your favourite people,” the founders emphasized.

The settings for group voice chats, which are no longer anonymous chat rooms for larger groups, can be changed to "friends only" or "friends of friends." Furthermore, the Clubhouse user experience is more vibrant and individualized than WhatsApp group chats, which is a significant selling point.
