Chinese Americans rally behind Harris and Walz

Chinese Americans, who make up one of the largest segments of the Asian American demographic, have launched a coalition to gather support for Vice President Kamala Harris, the first Asian American woman to be the nominee for President of the US.
The “Chinese Americans for Harris-Walz” is a dynamic, intergenerational coalition of the 4.7 million-strong Chinese American community that is diverse, encompassing a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.
The coalition aims to unify this community in support of Harris and Walz, the presidential ticket they believe is best positioned to safeguard America’s democracy, civil rights, and prosperity.
New York Chinese American delegates, led by Congresswoman Grace Meng and State Senators John Liu and Iwen Chu, are at the forefront of this effort.
"I am looking forward to making history by nominating Vice President Kamala Harris to officially be the Democratic Party's nominee for President. This will be our party's first-ever nominee for President of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) heritage,” said Congressmember Grace Meng.
She emphasized that the Biden-Harris Administration has been a steadfast ally for the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) community. From confronting Anti-Asian hate to making historic investments in AANHPI-serving institutions for higher education, the administration has consistently supported the community.
Meng highlighted that as the fastest-growing voting bloc in the nation, the community must remember the progress made and the ongoing work that needs to be continued.
“Not since 2008 have I been so excited to attend a Democratic National Convention when we nominated the first Black President,” said NYS Senator John Liu.
Liu emphasized the critical impact the Asian-American community will have in this election, acknowledging Joe Biden’s selfless leadership and commitment. He also vowed to fight relentlessly to defeat Donald Trump, who, in his Republican National Convention speech, once again used the slur "China Virus."
"The political influence of AAPI voters is only growing, with the nomination of Kamala Harris for president as the latest milestone in our community's progress. As the first Asian woman to be elected to the New York State Senate, I am proudly supporting her campaign and cast my delegate vote in her favor," said NYS Senator Iwen Chu.
"Now, it's time for us to band together, mobilize our districts, and ensure that Democrats not only win in November, but that the first woman and person of Asian descent is elected as President of the United States!” she added.
Other Chinese American delegates in the coalition include Chung Seto, a seasoned Democratic leader and strategist who made history as the first Asian American to serve as Executive Director of the New York State Democratic Party and is attending her sixth national convention. Alexander Wang, the current Executive Director of the New York State Democratic Party, is also among the delegates. Additionally, Queens activist Edwin Wong is participating as a Chinese American alternate delegate from New York.
