The Chicago INDO-US Lions Club, part of Lions Clubs International, a network of volunteers who work together for Humanitarian causes, along with the Illinois schools and Leyden High School, hosted an Environmental Awareness Drive last week.

This initiative brought together a diverse group of young volunteers from across Illinois, including students with special needs, to work on environmentally focused community projects.

The drive, designed to promote environmental responsibility, engaged youth in hands-on activities that encouraged teamwork, civic pride, and environmental awareness. Students were organized into groups based on their interests and abilities, with each group assigned a specific task related to local environmental improvement.

Activities included tree planting, trash collection, recycling initiatives, and neighborhood beautification efforts. Volunteers worked on cleaning school grounds, streets, and public spaces, in addition to yard work and cleaning for local seniors needing assistance.

The Chicago INDO-US Lions Club expressed pride in the event’s success, highlighting its dual impact on both the environment and the participating youth. “We’re grateful to all the students and community members who came together to make this event a success. By engaging our youth, we’re not only making Illinois cleaner but also building a generation of environmentally-conscious citizens,” said a representative from the club.

The event is part of the Chicago INDO-US Lions Club’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and youth empowerment. Inspired by the positive community response, the club announced plans to host another Environmental Awareness Drive in 2025, with the goal of expanding the initiative’s reach and impact.
