In recognition of their philanthropic efforts, British Asian trailblazers Shalni Arora and Asif Rangoonwala have been honoured by His Majesty King Charles III, a statement said on June.14. Arora and Rangoonwala are vice-chairs of the British Asian Trust – founded by the King and a group of British Asian business leaders.

Arora, who was bestowed with the Order of the British Empire (OBE), was honoured for her dedication to social cohesion and philanthropy. Over decades, she has championed various charitable causes, founding the Savannah Wisdom Foundation, which focuses on empowering disadvantaged communities. Central to its mission is to address the imbalance in legal rights access in India, particularly in cases of sexual and domestic violence, believing this is crucial for establishing a social contract that upholds women's dignity and freedom.

She remarked, “This award is a testament not just to me but to the incredible work of so many partners. Together, we strive to create a more inclusive and compassionate society, and I share this award with everyone who has supported our mission.”

Rangoonwala, who received the Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), was recognized for his contributions to charity and philanthropy, leveraging his role as a prominent business leader to drive positive change in communities across the UK and South Asia through the Rangoonwala Foundation. His initiatives span scholarships for underprivileged students, medical research funding, and community development programs.

Reflecting on the honour, Rangoonwala stated,“I am deeply honored and humbled to receive this recognition. I will strive to further our mission of creating a more equitable and compassionate world.”

Both Arora and Rangoonwala have played important roles at the British Asian Trust, advancing its mission to combat poverty and inequality across South Asia. Their leadership has significantly impacted millions through the Trust's programs, fostering inclusive and compassionate societies.

Lord Jitesh Gadhia, chair of the British Asian Trust, extended his congratulations, praising their dedication and the tangible difference they have made.  “Asif and Shalni’s passion and commitment to charitable causes is truly inspiring. Their leadership has been pivotal in advancing our goals and making a tangible difference to the lives of those we serve. We are immensely proud of their achievements and this well-deserved recognition.”
