British Airways, Air Canada expand connectivity to India

Air Canada and British Airways expand flight options, enhancing connectivity between Canada, UK, and India.

Air Canada and British Airways are expanding their international networks to India, providing significant increases in seat capacity and flight options beginning in late October for the Winter 2024-25 season.

Air Canada announced a 40 percent increase in seat capacity to India, adding new non-stop flights from Toronto to Mumbai, additional service from Western Canada to Delhi via London Heathrow, and daily flights from Montreal to Delhi. This expansion will result in a total of 25 weekly flights to India, the most comprehensive offering of any carrier between Canada and India. 

"India is an important market for Air Canada, reflecting longstanding and growing family and trade ties between our two countries," said Mark Galardo, executive vice president of revenue and network planning at Air Canada.

Starting Oct. 27, 2024, Air Canada will operate four weekly non-stop flights from Toronto to Mumbai. Flight AC46 departs Toronto at 8:00 p.m. (local time) and arrives in Mumbai at 9:45 p.m. (local time) the next day. The return flight, AC47, departs Mumbai at 11:45 p.m (local time). and arrives in Toronto at 6:45 a.m. the following day. 

Additionally, the airline will introduce new daily seasonal flights from Calgary to Delhi via London Heathrow, with flight AC850 departing Calgary at 5:30 p.m (local time)., arriving in London at 9:20 a.m. (local time) the next day, and continuing to Delhi at 12:00 p.m. (local time), arriving at 2:25 a.m. (local time) the following day. The return flight, AC851, departs Delhi at 6:45 a.m.(local time), arriving in London at 11:20 a.m.(local time), and then departs for Calgary at 1:25 p.m.(local time), arriving at 3:30 p.m. (local time) the same day.

British Airways is also enhancing its service to India, adding a new daily flight between Delhi and London Heathrow from April 20, 2025. This expansion increases British Airways' schedule to 63 flights a week across five Indian cities. 

"This is a milestone year for us at British Airways as we celebrate 100 years of flying to India," said Neil Chernoff, chief planning and strategy officer at British Airways. The new flight, BA136/137, will depart London at 4:30 p.m. (local time) and arrive in Delhi at 5:35 a.m. (local time) the next day. The return flight departs Delhi at 7:40 a.m. (local time) and arrives in London at 12:50 p.m. (local time). 

These expanded flight services by Air Canada and British Airways will significantly benefit the millions of Indian diaspora living in the UK and Canada. The increased connectivity and more flexible travel options will facilitate easier travel, strengthening ties between India and these countries.
