Bollywood actress Tabu has been cast in a recurring role in HBO Max's upcoming series ‘Dune: Prophecy’, a prequel to Denis Villeneuve's acclaimed Dune films.

According to Variety, Tabu will portray Sister Francesca, a character described by series creators as possessing strength, intelligence and undeniable allure. Her return to the palace is set to disrupt the established power dynamics of the capital.

Dune: Prophecy, originally commissioned in 2019 as Dune: The Sisterhood, is set 10,000 years before the events of the Dune films. The series, based on the novel “Sisterhood of Dune” by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, follows two Harkonnen sisters as they confront threats to humanity and establish the foundation for the Bene Gesserit sect.

Tabu joins a cast that includes Emily Watson, Olivia Williams and Mark Strong. Anna Foerster will serve as executive producer and director, directing the first episode. Alison Schapker is the showrunner and executive producer, while Diane Ademu-John co-developed the series and serves as an executive producer.

This announcement comes after the successful release of Dune: Part Two earlier this year. The second installment of Villeneuve's adaptation of Frank Herbert's classic novel has brought the Dune franchise's combined box office gross to more than $1.1 billion. A third film is currently in development.

Tabu's recent Bollywood screen appearance was in the comedy film ‘Crew’. She will next be seen in the romantic drama ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’, set for release in July 2024. Her role in Dune: Prophecy marks a significant expansion of her career, bringing her talent to an international audience and adding depth to the series' narrative.
