Bihar Jharkhand Association of North America (BJANA) hosted a Diwali celebration on October 26 at Royal Albert’s Palace, New Jersey.
The celebration featured exhibitions by sponsors, and guests enjoyed a variety of Indian festival delicacies.
The attendees, over 700 people, came from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Delaware.
Upendra Chivukula, commissioner of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, attended as the Guest of Honor, praising BJANA for its hard work and wishing everyone a Happy Diwali.
Pragya Singh, consul (Community Affairs), also joined the event, and Diwali wishes were sent by Nitish Kumar, chief minister of Bihar, Hemant Soren, chief minister of Jharkhand, and Vijay Kumar Sinha, deputy chief minister of Bihar.
Popular singer Sonakshi Kar, known for her appearance in Indian Idol, flew in from India to entertain the audience.
BJANA took the opportunity to recognize community leaders for their contributions. Honorees included Alok Kumar, Surabhi Prasad, Chittaranjan Sahay, Lalit Jha from the Press Trust of India, and Rashmi and Kamlesh Tewary of Tewary Law Firm.
Founding members Mrityunjay Singh and Rajendra Prasad were present to celebrate with the community.
BJANA also announced that its 50th anniversary celebration will take place on May 24 and 25, 2025, with preparations officially starting at the event.
BJANA president Sanjeev Singh thanked the community for their continued support. He also spoke about BJANA’s charitable activities in the USA, Bihar, and Jharkhand and expressed gratitude to the volunteers and committee members for their hard work in making the event a success.
The Diwali celebration was a joyful evening, bringing people together to enjoy the culture and traditions of Bihar and Jharkhand while strengthening the community spirit in the United States.
