BITS Pilani has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University at Buffalo (UB), part of the State University of New York (SUNY), to accelerate long-term collaboration and enhance the ongoing synergy between research and education.

Under this MoU, BITS and SUNY-Buffalo will collaborate to establish a 2+2 joint undergraduate program in engineering and related fields. Undergraduates in these programs will undertake their initial two years of study at BITS, followed by transferring to the University at Buffalo for the remaining two years.

Further details, including course offerings, study plans, tuition fees, scholarships, and program features, will be formalized in a separate agreement at a later date.

The institutions are also collaborating on the development of "2+3" cooperative Bachelor of Science/Master of Science (BS/MS) programs. In this innovative initiative, students will complete their initial two years of undergraduate studies at BITS. They will then transition to UB to fulfill prerequisites for both the BS and MS degrees.

In the future, both BITS and UB are contemplating collaborating on postgraduate programs, potentially including PhD courses.

The MoU underscores the commitment to promote collaboration among academics in teaching, research, publications, discussions, and networking. These initiatives aim to facilitate academic and faculty exchange, while exploring new avenues for collaborative teaching and research, according to an official statement.

“Pleased to host @bitspilaniindia, a leading Indian technical university, & sign an MOU to foster research & education programs between our institutions. Our agreement aligns with @WhiteHouse & @AAUniversities goals to expand higher ed partnerships between India & the U.S,” the UB president Satish K. Tripathi said in a post on X.
