The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced the Indian team that will be taking part in the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022, which will held at the the Pingfeng Cricket Field of Zhejiang University of Technology, from September 19 to October 8.
The squad lead by Ruturaj Gaikwad will feature Indian Premier League 2023 breakout stars Yashasvi Jaiswal (21) and Rinku Singh (25). The two youngsters made headlines during the recent season of IPL for their match winning performances. Jaiswal was the fifth highest run scorer with 625 runs at a strike rate of 163.
Rahul Tripathi, Tilak Varma, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Shivam Mavi, Shivam Dube, Prabhsimran Singh (wk) were also chosen as part of the team.
Standby players include Yash Thakur, Sai Kishore, Venkatesh Iyer, Deepak Hooda, and Sai Sudarsan. As the Asian Games will clash with the ODI World Cup which is scheduled to start on October 5, top Indian players have not been made part of the squad.
The men's and women's cricket competition will be played in a T20 style at the Asian Games. Cricket will be featured for just the third time overall at the games, after 2010 and 2014, during which India did not send teams.
