The BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Houston, Texas, hosted Diwali celebrations on Oct 19-20, attracting visitors to experience the rich traditions of the Festival of Lights. The event, a cornerstone of the Hindu calendar, served as a time for spiritual reflection, renewal, and community.
On Oct 19, the mandir welcomed devotees, well-wishers, and visitors into a volunteers spent weeks preparing the celebrations, which blended traditional rituals with contemporary community expressions.
The evening’s program included a cultural showcase held outdoors, followed by a fireworks display that illuminated the night sky. Bhadreshdas Swami, a renowned scholar, spoke on the significance of Diwali and the role mandirs play in preserving cultural heritage.
On Oct 20, the festivities continued with a Kids Diwali Celebration, providing games, activities, and cultural programs for children. The programs were designed to instill an understanding of Diwali’s meaning while creating a fun, engaging environment, the release stated.
This year’s Diwali celebration was particularly significant, as it coincided with BAPS’s year-long commemoration of 50 Years in North America. The milestone honors five decades of service, cultural preservation, and growth.
