Ayodhya achieved two new Guinness World Records on Oct 30 during the annual Deepotsav celebrations on the Saryu River’s banks, where thousands gathered to mark Diwali’s eve.

Organized by the Uttar Pradesh Department of Tourism and the Ayodhya District Administration, the event set records for the largest oil lamp display and the highest number of participants in a synchronized diya rotation ceremony.

Over 2.5 million (2,512,585) earthen lamps illuminated the riverbanks, setting a new benchmark for the largest display of oil lamps. The previous record for the largest display of oil lamps was 22,023,676, set during Deepotsav in 2023.

Additionally, 1,121 ‘vedacharyas’ (religious scholars) conducted a synchronized aarti, creating a record for the largest number of participants performing a diya rotation simultaneously.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath received certificates of recognition from Guinness World Records on behalf of the organizers. “Congratulations to everyone for this achievement earned through the blessings of respected saints/religious leaders and the efforts of devotees and Ram bhakts,” he remarked.

The grand event included a laser show, a colorful display of tableaux portraying significant moments from Lord Ram’s life, and a drone exhibition, drawing millions of devotees and tourists to Ayodhya.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his congratulations in a social media post, commending Ayodhya’s Deepotsav.

“Amazing, incomparable and unimaginable! Many congratulations to the people of Ayodhya for the grand and divine Deepotsav! This Jyotiparva at the holy birthplace of Ram Lalla, illuminated by millions of diyas, is going to be emotional. This beam of light emanating from Ayodhya Dham will fill my family members across the country with new enthusiasm and new energy,” PM said.
