Hobart Hurricanes announced the signing of Indian-born player Nikhil Chaudhary for Season 13 of the Big Bash League (BBL), the professional men’s Twenty20 domestic cricket competition in Australia.

The news was announced in a press release by the team on November 7.

“Nikhil Chaudhary is a run-scoring machine, and Hurricanes fans will soon become familiar with his trademark big hitting as the season kicks off,” the release says. A Queensland resident, Chaudhary is a former U19 national representative for India. He has dominated QSL’s T20 competition for the past few seasons averaging 44.8 with a batting strike rate of 164.3.

Aside from his skills with the bat, Chaudhary is a leg-spin bowler and by adding him to the roster, the Hurricane have another spin option to compliment his middle to lower batting. Chaudhary who is  thrilled to be playing in the BBL and for the Hurricanes said, “My first goal when I moved to Australia was to be playing in the Big Bash.”

“I would describe myself as a finisher, I’ll be there at the end in the last couple of overs scoring a couple of big ones and finishing the game for the team that will be my goal for this year,” he added.

Hurricanes Assistant Coach James Hopes had pitched Chaudhary’s name to be added to the team earlier this year, said Cricket Tasmania High Performance General Manager Salliann Beams. “Hopesy put Nikhil’s name forward earlier in the year, and ever since then he hasn’t stopped scoring runs, Nikhil has always batted 5, 6, 7 and he knows it so well… hopefully he’ll get his chance,” Beams said.

Chaudhary joins Iain Carlisle, Tim David, Paddy Dooley, Nathan Ellis, Peter Hatzoglou, Caleb Jewell, Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Mitch Owen, Billy Stanlake, Matthew Wade, Mac Wright, Chris Jordan, Sam Hain, Corey Anderson, Liam Guthrie, and, Sam Heazlett, as the current Hurricanes players for BBL|13. The Hobart Hurricanes will face the Sydney Sixers for their first BBL|13 match on  December 11 at Launceston.
