Ashwini Balasubramanian has emerged as one of the finalists of the seventh annual ‘What Drives Her’ awards program in the industry trailblazer category.

Organized by Chicago Auto Show in partnership with A Girls Guide to Cars and Women in Automotive, the award ceremony will take place on February 8, 2024, at McCormick Place.

The Chicago Auto Show is produced by Chicagoland's new-car dealer association Chicago Automobile Trade Association.

Currently the general manager of advanced engineering at Harley Davidson Motor Company, Balasubramaniam has over 20 years of professional experience in product development, testing and validation, and corporate strategy. She also has a keen interest in data science and strategy.

She previously worked at Bosch, Martinrea International and ZF Group after earning her bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from SSM College of Engineering, Tamil Nadu and a master’s in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan.

The 'What Drives Her' award recognizes women who are changing the auto industry. This year, the program will highlight data around female-driven automotive shopping trends and influence, according to a statement.

It will also feature a panel discussion, titled "What Drives Her…To Buy a Car," moderated by Kathy Gilbert, senior director of minority dealer and women retail at CDK Global and founding board member of Women in Automotive.

During the panel discussion, participants will dive deeper into a female's perspective on automotive research and purchasing behavior.

Commenting about the program, Scotty Reiss, founder of A Girls Guide to Cars and What Drives Her organizer, said, "We started What Drives Her because there was a need to showcase women in the industry. A short seven years later this is THE stage for women who are leading automotive and inspiring others, including consumers."
