The American Center, situated within the U.S. Consulate General Chennai, is set to host a family-friendly Halloween event on October 28. Halloween, an iconic American holiday, is celebrated throughout the United States, where communities decorate their homes and gardens with carved pumpkins, and whimsical haunted decor, and prepare an array of candies in anticipation of families going trick-or-treating. Halloween isn't just about spooky movies or collecting treats; it's a family and community-oriented holiday that encourages the use of magical imagination and inspires creativity in both children and parents.
To share the Halloween spirit, The American Center in Chennai is organizing a day full of fun activities this year. Attendees are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite storybook characters and take part in various Halloween-themed events. The day's schedule includes a DIY session for crafting your own trick-or-treat bags at 10:30 a.m., an exciting Escape Room adventure at 11:00 a.m., a Halloween-themed movie screening at noon, and a storytelling session at 2:30 p.m., specifically designed for children aged 3 to 9.
According to U.S. Consulate General Chennai Public Engagement and Cultural Affairs Officer Scott Hartmann, “While many people have a perception that Halloween is mainly about spooky and scary things, Halloween is one of the most beloved holidays among kids, families, and communities in the USA, because it’s a time when we all come together to get creative, let our imaginations run wild, and create a real fun experience for children.”
