All-rounder Hardik Pandya to miss World Cup match against NZ
The vice-captain sprained his left ankle while fielding off his own bowling during India's match against Bangladesh

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officially announced that Hardik Pandya, the all-rounder for India, will not play in the World Cup match on October 22 against New Zealand.
The vice-captain sprained his left ankle while fielding off his own bowling during India's match against Bangladesh at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
While attempting to use his right foot to deflect a Litton Das shot down the ground, Hardik landed awkwardly on his left ankle. After the incident, the 30-year-old was given medical attention on the field, but he was unable to return. His over was bowled by Virat Kohli.
According to a medical update from BCCI, Pandya will be monitored by the BCCI medical staff. "He will not be taking the flight to Dharamsala with the team on 20th October and will now join the team directly in Lucknow where India plays England," BCCI said, adding, "He is advised to rest and will be under the constant supervision of the BCCI medical team."
Lok Sabha member Shashi Tharoor has suggested the Indian selectors choose Mohammad Shami and Suryakumar Yadav. Taking to 'X', he wrote, “So @hardikpandya7 has been ruled out of India's next World Cup game, against New Zealand in Dharamsala on Sunday. Since he has to be replaced & and there’s no other genuine all-rounder in the squad, we need two changes to cover both bases: @MdShami11 must come in at the expense of Shardul and Hardik’s spot should go to @surya_14kumar. This match will determine who’s the top dog at the round-robin stage of the #WorldCup2023. We have to play the best possible XI!"
