Akasa Air, known as India's fastest-growing airline, has expanded its international network by introducing daily direct flights between Riyadh and Mumbai.

The inaugural flight, which departed from Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at 10:20 p.m. (local time) on June 15, 2024, arrived at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport at 12:15 a.m. (local time).

This new route marks Riyadh as Akasa Air's second destination in Saudi Arabia, reinforcing the airline's footprint in the region which is home to a community of more than 2.4 million Indians. The inaugural flight was met with a warm reception at King Khalid International Airport, attended by senior officials from both Akasa Air and the airport.

“We are pleased to commence operations from Riyadh, our third international destination on our rapidly growing international network. The city’s flourishing trade prospects and dynamic tourist attractions have made it an increasingly popular destination for a variety of Indian travellers,” stated Neelu Khatri, co-founder and senior vice president International at Akasa Air.

Praveen Iyer, co-founder and chief commercial officer, emphasized the significant potential of Riyadh as a tourist destination. “We are delighted to strengthen our presence in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with the commencement of services to Riyadh. The city holds immense potential as a tourist destination, and the launch of daily direct flights connecting the city with Mumbai will enhance passenger and cargo capacity on the route, catering to the growing demand for trade and tourism,” he said.

Akasa Air initiated its international operations with flights to Doha in March 2024, followed by the commencement of services to Jeddah in May 2024. The airline has been granted traffic rights for additional international destinations, including Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, and Medina, and plans to continue its rapid international expansion, a release noted.

Since its launch in August 2022, Akasa Air has transported over 10 million passengers and currently connects 25 cities, including major hubs such as Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru.
