Akasa Air Airlines has announced the start of international operations, effective from March 28, 2024. The first flight will be operated from Mumbai to Doha.
The airlines will operate four non-stop flights a week, connecting Mumbai with Doha, enhancing air connectivity between Qatar and India, a statement said. The flights will operate on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with bookings open to the public.
The launch is in line with Qatar Tourism Strategy 2030, aiming to make the country the fastest-growing tourism destination in the Middle East by 2030.
Delighted to launch the international operations with Doha as the first destination, Akasa Air's founder and chief executive officer, Vinay Dube, emphasized, "The introduction of four flights a week, connecting directly with Mumbai, a key Indian commercial hub, will cater to a diverse set of travelers from the two countries, facilitating tourism, commerce and strengthening bilateral ties."
Dube added that the aircraft is built on a solid foundation of reliability, service excellence, and the highest standards of safety in global aviation. "We are proud of our remarkable growth since inception, which is also a testimony of the sheer potential of the Indian aviation industry. Our foray into Qatar marks the next phase of growth as we continue our journey towards becoming one of the world’s top 30 airlines by the turn of this decade,” he noted.
With the development, the airline becomes the first Indian operator to fly overseas within 19 months of its inception. Launched in August 2022, Akasa Air has served over 7.75 million passengers and connected 20 cities across the country, such as Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kochi, Delhi, and Guwahati.
