Indian actor Pankaj Tripathi said that acting is the recreation of real-life roles and emotions during a session at the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI).

The masterclass hosted in collaboration with the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata, offered a profound exploration of acting as both an art form and a tool for personal growth.

The OMG-2 movie star said that an individual should to be empathetic to become a proficient actor. According to him, acting serves a broader purpose to make individuals better human beings by understanding diverse perspectives. “When you put yourselves in someone’s shoes, and understand their thoughts, their emotions, and their perspectives, you also become a better human,” he said.

Addressing the gathering moderated by renowned film critic and journalist Mayank Shekhar, Tripathi highlighted the significance of aligning the body and mind for natural acting. “Flexibility and openness of mind and body are crucial to molding oneself according to the character,” he explained.

The recreation of emotions on the screen can happen only when an individual force a hypothetical situation of the character in the brain and train themself to do so, he added.

Dwelling on the difference between a star and an actor, Tripathi said, “an actor can always take the opportunity for experimentation with their role," which, according to him, keeps acting alive.

Talking about his initial years as an actor, Tripathi acknowledged the struggles he had to overcome. He stressed the importance of hope in moving forward with one’s passion, and added, “But just hope is not sufficient, self-assessment is also necessary. Ask yourself why you want to do this."

“Life becomes meaningful only when fame and money is utilized fruitfully and for a good purpose,” said Tripathi, who has bagged several accolades in recognition of his supporting roles in films, including 83, Mimi, and Newton.

The nine-day film festival began on November 20, 2023, and concludes on November 28, 2023, at Panaji Goa. Indian Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur inaugurated the event at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium.
