Forbes recently released its list of the richest Americans in 2023, featuring five Indian American billionaires. According to Forbes, the wealthiest individuals in the United States have collectively grown $500 billion richer compared to the previous year.
Among the Indian Americans featured is Jay Chaudhry, with a net worth of $9.2 billion ranked at 89. Chaudhry is the CEO of Zscaler, a cybersecurity company he established in 2008, leading it to a successful initial public offering in March 2018.
Before Zscaler, Chaudhry founded and managed four other tech firms—SecureIT, CoreHarbor, CipherTrust, and AirDefense—all of which were eventually acquired. Hailing from a small Himalayan village, he embarked on his journey to the United States in 1980 to pursue graduate studies.
Vinod Khosla ranked 161 with a net worth of $6.5 billion, is the founder of Khosla Ventures. Khosla Ventures, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm, specializes in investing in cutting-edge technologies like biomedicine and robotics. Vinod Khosla, one of its co-founders, played a key role in establishing Sun Microsystems in 1982.
Ranked 215, Romesh T Wadhwani has a net worth of $5.1 billion. Wadhwani is the chairman of Symphony AI, an enterprise AI firm he founded in 2017.
He also chairs ConcertAI, an AI company in the healthcare and life sciences sector. With an educational background from the prestigious IIT and a PhD in electrical engineering from Carnegie Mellon, he brings a wealth of knowledge to the field.
Rajiv Jain, with a net worth of $3.1 billion is ranked 366 on the Forbes list. Jain, originally from India, is the founder, chairman, and chief investment officer of GQG Partners, an asset management firm headquartered in Fort Lauderdale.
He co-founded GQG alongside CEO Tim Carver in 2016. After arriving in the United States in the early 1990s, Jain pursued an MBA at the University of Miami.
CEO of business software firm Workday, Aneel Bhusri, ranked 379 on the list with a net worth of $2.6 billion. Bhusri also serves as an advisory partner at Greylock Partners, a venture capital firm, and has been a recurrent member of the Forbes Midas List since 2008.
He pursued electrical engineering at Brown University and earned an MBA from Stanford. In May 2018, Bhusri joined the Giving Pledge, a commitment made by the world's wealthiest individuals to allocate the majority of their wealth to philanthropic endeavours.
